Full-Time Bookseller (New York, NY)

Core Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service:

    • Greet and assist customers, answering questions about books and the store. 

    • Provide recommendations based on customer preferences and interests. 

    • Process sales, returns, and exchanges efficiently. 

    • Maintain a friendly and helpful demeanor. 

  • Sales and Inventory:

    • Sell books, puzzles, and other merchandise. 

    • Stock shelves and keep the store organized and visually appealing. 

    • Process orders, shipments, and returns. 

    • Maintain accurate inventory records. 

  • Event Support:

    • Assist with author signings and other events. 

    • Set up and maintain event spaces. 

  • General Store Operations:

    • Operate a cash register. 

    • Make change and process payments. 

    • Follow established policies and procedures.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Passion for Mystery Fiction: A genuine love for the genre and a willingness to learn about different subgenres. 

  • Excellent Customer Service Skills: Ability to interact with customers in a friendly, helpful, and professional manner. 

  • Sales Skills: Ability to effectively sell products and build rapport with customers. 

  • Organizational Skills: Ability to keep the store organized and maintain accurate inventory records. 

  • Attention to Detail: Ability to pay attention to detail in all aspects of the job. 

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to interact with customers and staff. 

  • Cash Handling Skills: Ability to operate a cash register and process payments accurately. 

  • Ability to Work Independently and as Part of a Team: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other staff members.
