Otto Penzler, proprietor of The Mysterious Bookshop, founded The Mysterious Press in 1975. The imprint was devoted to printing the best mystery, crime and suspense books, using fine paper and top dust jacket artists.
It went on to publish such best-selling authors as James Ellroy, P.D. James, Donald E. Westlake, Eric Ambler, Ross Macdonald, Isaac Asimov, Ed McBain, Kingsley Amis and Elmore Leonard, both in hardcover and paperback.
Today, The Mysterious Press exists in two forms.
Working in conjunction with Open Road Integrated Media, MysteriousPress.com is converting previously-published works to eBook formats, from notable authors like James Ellroy, Donald Westlake, Ross Thomas, Brian Garfield and Christianna Brand, among others. The press is also publishing original novels by previously-published authors and talented newcomers, some of which are available as print editions. Visit the website to see all the books the press has to offer.
An imprint of our in-house publishing company, Penzler Publishers, The Mysterious Press is home to authors including Joyce Carol Oates, Thomas Perry, David Gordon, and many more authors. Learn more on the Mysterious Press page of the Penzler Publishers website.
